Dating a Regal resonator I've been tasked with dating an old Regal resonator, but can't find any accurate way to do so. There is no serial number on the outside of the instrument, only a 'J' embossed on the edge of the headstock. If a serial number is not in the lists or is not recognized in the serial number decoder, it does not mean that the guitar is a fake. There are many versions of this model, with numerous differences in design occurring over the decade of its production run. This example is a later Chicago-built instrument, dating from as early as 1935, but more likely to 1937. The instrument features a birch plywood body, 12 fret round neck, sunburst top finish, white bound top and back, screen soundholes, slotted headstock, and poinsettia coverplate.
